New to Peels?  Full of questions? Ready to bust some enduring myths about facial peels? Read on…

Myth #1) Chemical peels will leave you with significant downtime.

TRUTH: People tend to associate chemical peels with the infamous Sex and the City episode where Samantha had a chemical peel and looked as if she was severely burned with sheets of skin falling off. This is only true of very deep, medical grade chemical peel performed by a physician. Our philosophy follows the low-dose approach: inducing the least amount of trauma to the skin to achieve optimal results. Our Chemical Peels are progressive rather than aggressive. At most you may experience several days of light to moderate flaking.

Myth #2) My skin is too sensitive for chemical peels.

TRUTH: Sensitive skin is defined as a heightened intolerance to topical products or external factors. Sensitive Skin presents itself as red, irritated or scaly. PCA peels utilize specialized ingredient-blends that not only calm sensitive skin but also resurface the skin from rosacea damage and acne scaring. The Sensi peel actually reduces inflammation in the epidermis while giving you a professional exfoliation. You’re left with smoother, healthier skin from the inside-out. This peel is one of the only products available that will deliver truly noticeable results with rosacea skin. But this peel is not just for sensitive skin: if you’re looking for a brightening treatment that’s also soothing to the skin with minimal peeling, this is your best choice.

Myth #3) A “series” of chemical peels is a one time solution.

TRUTH: Receiving several treatments close together will give the skin visible results, however it needs to be done on a consistent basis to achieve the best outcome. You can compare it to exercising: the more consistent you are with your routine, the better your outcome will be. Consistent maintenance will keep enhancing the results you see in your skin.

Myth #4) Chemical peels are bad for you.

TRUTH: Actually, the active acids in most chemical peels are natural. Glycolic acid comes from sugar cane and fruits, lactic acid from sour milk and salicylic acid from willow bark. These products are safe to use as long as all risks and possible contraindications are assessed before the treatment. Also the word “acid” can have negative connotations. The fact is that one of the most beneficial ingredients used to hydrate, plump, and heal the skin is hyaluronic acid.

Myth #5) Skin must “peel” for a chemical peel to work.

TRUTH: Not everyone will peel with every treatment they have. Your skin will do what it needs to do. Sometimes only microscopic dead epidermal cells will be dissolved. Be assured that the peel is working on a cellular level to smooth texture, improve line and wrinkle appearance, brighten, lift pigment, and increase hydration and firmness.
